Success Story
Monolith decoupling and scalable Kubernetes platform for PITZ App
PITZ App built a model to make amateur football more visible and valuable: an application to register tournaments, leagues, players, filmmakers and commentators, manage the fixture and upload match highlights. Craftech modernized its platform on AWS, decoupling the monolith and moving it to Kubernetes.
Challenge
The PITZ application was not scalable and had performance problems, largely due to a jobs- and cronjobs-based architecture that did not exploit parallelism where feasible. The work involved understanding the architecture, decoupling the monolith, standardizing deployments and segmenting environments.
Solution
Craftech dockerized the project and stood up a local environment to speed up team onboarding. It deployed Kubernetes clusters segmented by environment, configured the monitoring stack with Grafana, Prometheus + Thanos and Alertmanager, and built per-service helm charts to standardize manifests from a single chart. Services were deployed in parallel to the production environment, load tests were run and, after active monitoring, the migration was completed via a DNS switch. All infrastructure and deployments were left written as code.
Results
PITZ gained faster onboarding for new team members and a working standard that let them focus on application development, with automated deployments and automated tests. The application no longer had scalability problems and the team gained full visibility into its services, with alerts for any anomaly.
