Success Story
Critical microservices migrated from Azure to AWS in 5 months, with no incidents
n1co is a Central American fintech founded in 2022 with the mission of evolving the region's financial system, building an inclusive, trustworthy ecosystem that brings more people into Central America's financial future.
Challenge
n1co had a costly, hard-to-scale Azure infrastructure with limitations for operating critical microservices. There were concrete technical problems: the database migration required defining the right tool and ensuring continuity (with higher AWS cost due to licensing), and external dependencies like Azure Service Bus had no direct AWS equivalent. An initial approach with Azure SQL Data Sync showed very long run times and index/format issues that prevented guaranteeing integrity and performance.
Solution
Craftech designed and deployed a scalable EKS-based infrastructure on AWS to support the critical microservices, with clusters for development and production and the components to standardize deployments (ArgoCD, CI/CD, monitoring with Grafana/Prometheus). For databases it settled on SQLPackage as the most reliable method, with a hybrid approach (an NLB as a proxy to RDS) for public-access cases and consolidation of lower-environment databases to reduce costs. Service Bus was kept in the lowest-latency Azure region to avoid application code changes.
Results
The migration to AWS succeeded, on time and as planned and with no incidents during execution, while modernizing the stack. CI/CD observability and resource versioning improved with GitOps and ArgoCD; infrastructure became more scalable (horizontally with Terraform and vertically with EKS Auto Mode), with long-term log retention (Loki) and centralized metrics (Thanos). Operational control and agility improved with AWS Control Tower, ArgoCD, Terraform and the monitoring stack.
