Challenge
Finaktiva runs a complex multi-cloud environment: 33+ AWS accounts, databases split across Azure SQL Server and 6 MongoDB Atlas clusters, and cross-cloud traffic traveling over the public internet. It lacked a production Kubernetes standard, centralized observability, unified cross-account access management and consolidated visibility for dev teams, who depended on infra for any basic operation.
Solution
Craftech deployed 3 EKS Auto Mode clusters (dev, staging and production) with Karpenter and full observability (Prometheus, Loki, Grafana). It implemented secure multi-cloud traffic —IPSec VPN between AWS and Azure for SQL Server and VPC Peering to the 6 MongoDB Atlas clusters— eliminating all public traffic, with IaC in Terraform/Terragrunt and unified IAM Identity Center across all accounts. It also built an Internal Developer Portal on Port, with a software catalog integrated to AWS, EKS, Jenkins and GitHub, maturity scorecards and self-service actions.
Results
Finaktiva ended with a production EKS Auto Mode platform across 3 environments with complete IaC and standardized deploys, secured multi-cloud traffic (zero public traffic to Azure SQL Server and MongoDB Atlas) and reduced data-transfer costs. It gained full observability centralized in Grafana, unified access to 33+ accounts via IAM Identity Center, optimized costs with automatic DEV/STG shutdown, and a production IDP on Port that gives developers end-to-end visibility, automated scorecards and operational self-service without infra tickets.
