Cubiq stabilizes and centralizes its infrastructure with on-demand environments and automated CI/CD
Cubiq Digital helps other companies turn offline experiences into digital products, with a positive impact on customer experience, internal processes and the business. Craftech stepped in to stabilize, centralize and standardize Cubiq's infrastructure and workflows.
Challenge
The goal was to automate, centralize and standardize the resources Cubiq had used since its beginnings. Cubiq arrived with several infrastructure stability issues, which in a first stage required resolving recurring problems before being able to focus on the original requirement. There was zero visibility to detect performance problems, little documentation or defined flows to release changes, and resources were scattered across multiple platforms, making the migration a challenge to minimize downtime.
Solution
Once the platform was stabilized, Craftech focused on centralization: the different resource origins made the work tedious, so the repository was unified in GitLab and workflows were defined along with the required automations. Applications were dockerized, tests were created and templates were generated for the proposed CI/CD process. All touched parts were documented, networks were segmented and clusters were implemented per environment/client. Reusable helm charts were built for the multiple cases, an automated CI/CD flow with testing and rollback capability was constructed, and monitoring was implemented for better observability and event detection for auditing.
Results
Cubiq moved to generating environments for its applications on demand, with the process documented and the ability to create and destroy infrastructure on its own. It gained visibility to forecast costs and, above all, a stable architecture after the initial stabilization stage.
