Craftech unblocks Buenbit's pod scalability on EKS in 30 days
Buenbit is an Argentine fintech founded in 2018 that lets users buy, sell and invest in cryptocurrencies and digital assets. It operates in Argentina, Peru and Mexico, with all its infrastructure on AWS on an EKS microservices cluster.
Challenge
Buenbit's EKS cluster was hitting the per-node pod limit due to IP allocation in the existing subnets. Each EC2 node could host a reduced number of pods because of exhausted IP ranges in the VPC, limiting the horizontal scaling of its microservices.
Solution
Craftech analyzed the EKS cluster's network configuration and designed and implemented new subnets with the IP ranges needed to enable higher pod density per node. The solution lays the foundation for Buenbit to scale its microservices without adding extra EC2 nodes, optimizing the use of existing infrastructure.
Results
New subnets were implemented enabling the VPC CNI plugin's Prefix Delegation mode (each /28 prefix adds 16 IPs per ENI entry), significantly increasing the maximum pods per node without changing the EC2 instance type. Microservice scaling was unblocked by optimizing existing infrastructure.
