Akua: developer experience platform with Port and DORA metrics on AWS
Akua is a Latin American paytech that offers payments infrastructure as a service (Acquiring-as-a-Service), licensed by Visa and Mastercard, with a cloud-native platform able to process more than 50 million transactions a day. Craftech worked on its internal engineering platform (Port.io) to give the team observability and visibility over its services and development lifecycle.
Challenge
Akua had a working developer portal (Port.io) but no real visibility into the state of its services: no exporters were configured and no data sources were connected, so all catalog information came from internal actions with no automatic ingestion. DORA metrics were not available, vulnerability reports lived in isolation in GitLab, and service observability was limited to New Relic with no integration into the central portal. The team needed a unified view to make data-driven decisions.
Solution
Craftech designed and implemented a centralized observability layer on Akua's internal developer portal (Port.io). It connected three key tools —GitLab, New Relic and Wiz— to automatically feed the portal with deployment, performance and security metrics, and created automatic per-service scorecards that track both development-lifecycle performance (DORA metrics) and vulnerability exposure in real time, with declarative, one-way mappings that do not interfere with the client's existing entities.
Results
The implementation transformed the visibility of Akua's platform team. DORA metrics, previously unavailable, are now shown per service directly in Port; test coverage went from absent in the portal to available per pipeline; observability is no longer limited to New Relic and is centralized in Port with associated scorecards; and security and vulnerability data, previously siloed in GitLab, is ingested automatically and reflected in per-service scorecards. Scorecards, which did not exist before the project, now update automatically for every service.
